Large (ish) Images Can't Be Displayed Or Resized in 1.2?

I upgraded a zenphoto installation to 1.2 and I'm having problems with images that are larger, over 2 megs or so. Larger photos won't be displayed and don't get resized.

From searching the forums it sounds like there may be a few other people running into this problem. I don't think it is an issue with the images being too large to be resized because of php memory processing limits on my web host (bluehost), because the same images work just fine on an older version of zenphoto.

Comparison of 1.2 to 1.1.6 on same photos:
I created a brand new installation of zenphoto 1.2 uploaded 2 images both 2.9MB and they don't get resized:

I created a brand new installation of zenphoto 1.1.6 (since that is is the latest version I had a copy of), and those same pictures work just fine, get resized, and are displayed:

I can submit a ticket via the bug tracker, but I wasn't quite sure if it was me only (my web host) or if this is a general problem.

Thanks for any help or input!

  • I agree. There is a definitely a problem with 1.2 and caching larger images. I installed 1.2 and could not cache 3/4 of my pictures that were over about 2.2 megs. I rolled back to 1.1.7 and it works fine again.
  • I have the exact same problem on my installation of Zenphoto. It worked fine on 1.1.7 but has started complaining about being out of memory on 1.2 with the exact same images. Rolling back to 1.1.7 fixed the problems for me, but is of course a less than ideal solution.

Perhaps the memory management has changed and/or broken? I think you should take it up to the bug tracker as soon as possible, in case a 1.2.1 is planned in the very near future. :)

I'll look at the diffs of 1.2 vs 1.1.7 in the image processing code and see if there's anything there that would be taking up more memory... that does sound like a regression.

Post it to trac :) Thanks.

Can you all please try the nightly build after tonight? I've put in a fix that I think may help. It will be up after 11pm PST. Thank you.

If you don't want to wait just update `functions.php` and `i.php` from svn.

Just tried out the nightly on those same images and a few other ones around 4mb, and it works just fine. Thanks trisweb for fixing it so quickly.
  • I still had some problems with the latest build. It was better.. but still had to roll back to 1.1.7 again.
