when zenphoto adds photos

When does zenphoto actually search and ad new photos to the database? The main reason I am asking is that I want to modify some code to exclude certain file names (which will be used as thumbnails later)

Well I have no idea how zenphoto works and im just guessing... I am assuming it looks for a thumbnail in the cache folder for the specific file name, if the thumbnail doesnt exist, create it, if it does, display it...
