search and tags problem - two issues?

something is wrong with the searching function.

if i did a search for "food & china" on my site then the next page and prev pages don't work properly, the second keyword is truncated.

Also, there are doubles shown on the search function.

  • I guess this would be a boolean search issue..

    Please try the nightly.
  • Thanks for the response, but it is still not working properly.
  • Bump.. I must sound like a broken record.

This problem so far is not present when | (pipe) is used, it only appears to happen when I search using the ampersand.

    Any updates on this?
  • please read http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=3760

You have given us scant information. A link to the site would be particularly useful as the guide says.
  • I apologize for not providing enough information; I guess I was not as clear as I thought I was. I did provide a link to my site.. I guess it wasn't clear though, since it is under an "a href" under the word site, but I'll just put it on my profile now.

Mainly, the problem lies when I use the boolean search function "&". Typing in "food & china" should render the results back that have both food and china in the tags. It does this just fine, or so it appears, until the 27th picture in the above example. At this point, it begins to show DOUBLE of all the following photos. However, I believe the problem is with a few of those albums, for example http://photos.albeezie.com/2008/20080609-Hong_Kong_to_Xiamen/ as clicking on that makes it say Photos 2-54 out of 65 (instead of 1-53)... then next page it says photos 64-75 out of 65. This strange phenomenon occurs on the albums "Cu Chi Tunnels and Siem Reap" all the way to "Stuck in Fuzhou." It does not appear that other albums are doing this, at least none that I have encountered. I believe now that this a different issue.

In addition, clicking on the Next Page function results in the truncation of the search terms "food & china" to just "food+" starting in page two (the search term china is removed). At this point, the search continues under the search term "food." I hope this is clearer now. Basically, anything after the first ampersand (&) is removed. Thus, I believe the boolean search (&) is causing search problems. The other boolean search (|) appears to work just fine. I have not tested any others. Thank you for your help.

P.S. If you would like me to post it on the bugtracker, then I will.
  • Thanks for posting your site. The search is working just fine when I try it. The link to the second page is correct and arrives at the correct place. What browser are you using?
  • Thanks for looking, but I don't think you are understanding me quite exactly, haha..

I'm using Firefox but IE does the same. I don't think it is a browser issue nor an admin log-in issue because I was not logged in under IE.

I will post some screenshots to clarify my point.

    ----

Initial Screen - I typed in "food & china into search). (Screenshot 1)

I get what I search for, however, the doubles are not shown. Notice the total number of images found is 133. (Screenshot 2)

I click on NEXT PAGE and notice that now the total number of searched photos is 399. This is because the search word china is no longer taken into the engine. As you can see in the bottom, my mouse which is over the previous page button not shown due to print screen, the url has truncated the china part. (Screenshot 3)

When I click on previous page, it looks NOTHING like screenshot 2, again, China search is removed. (Screenshot 4)

I will post the strange doubles and misnumbered gallery bug on another thread if you'd like. Thanks!
  • Ok, I see what you are describing. However, I cannot reproduce it.
  • Strange, are you not able to reproduce it on your own tests or on my website? It pretty much works on the first page, but if you have more results than that of the first page.

I tried to see if it was like that on just that theme, but it is happening the same way in the default theme as well. Anything after the ampersand is being truncated on the "next page.."
