New Themes not available

I downloaded a couple of new themes. Uncompressed them and then uploaded the new uncompressed folders to my website and into the Themes Folder. All the Themes are in the Themes folder including the default Themes that came with the initial ZenPhoto Download.
However, when I open ZenPhoto as Admin and try to add a new theme to my albums only the original themes are available. None of the New Themes are given as an option. What am I missing or doing wrong.
Thank you for your help.

  • Themes must have either a theme_description.txt or theme_description.php file for zenphoto to recognize them.
  • OK where do I get either of these?
  • They should be included with the theme.
  • I checked and they are in my folders for the 4 themes that came with ZenPhoto. However, the themes I downloaded do not have these files. I will delete what I have and try to download them again to see if my first attempt was corrupted.
    Thanks
  • Hm... perhaps you can make them yourself.. just model it after the standard ones?

The next question is: Where did you download that themes? If it was not from our themes page that could be the cause.
  • It was from ZenPhoto. I got them from a link in my Themes edit page.

Some of the themes are third party and older and have not been updated by their authors. We did one update for 1.1. back then but now we only maintain the four included standard themes plus the zenpage default theme because of lacking resources to do that. So I would suggest to try what lucian suggests.
  • Even if they are old third party themes and not updated they still should be showing up in your admin - you may not have correct permissions (cmod) for the new theme folders you uploaded to?

    That is true...
  • I am having the same problem. I changed the permissions to 777 and I also created the theme php file and am still only seeing the initial four themes. Did you find a workaround or a solution for this?
  • Well, the reason for a theme not showing is that there is no description for it. I do not know what the "theme php" file you mention is. You must have either `theme_description.php` or `theme.txt` present in the folder. (The post above was not correct vs. the second file's name.)
