I switched from different gallery scripts, say Coppermine, Gallery2 and now, Zenphoto. I recently test the script and it works well, fast and simple. The point is, how well Zenphoto can perform.
My gallery (using Gallery2 now) focuses on Anime scans and has over 2,8000 scans (most of them over 2000x2000) and several hundred of albums and subalbums. However, my gallery turns out to be very slow, sometimes even fail to load pages or simply gives a error message.
I want to ask those who have used Zenphoto and how it performs. Any ideas? THX~

Although I won't deny that some users encountered some performance issues on the admin backend only (http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=4320), some have used Zenphoto sucessfully with large amounts of images successfully.:

Maybe just try Zenphoto yourself.
On the index page place a link to your registration page. (You can use the contact form plugin for this.)
When you decide to approve a user for viewing your gallery, create a user name/password for him. (Of if you don't want to manage individual users, just give him the password for the gallery.)
While I'm testing zenphoto, after I enabled the URL rewrite mod, I found that the mod use hyphen to replace space. eg: "zen-photo" instead of "zen photo". Can I modify the code to replace the hyphen with "+", say "zen+photo", since in gallery2 it uses "+" between words and I don't want the links to be broken.
@southdreams: If you upload via the upload form a folder "zen-photo" instead of "zen photo" will be generated.
At least on my site the spaces are replaced by plus signs. This encoding is done by the PHP library, so maybe there is a difference on your setup.
