This can occur if you are trying to use the mod_rewrite option and the capability is not supported on your server. It also can happen on some servers with certain accented characters.
But in general you have not told us enough to be of any help to you.
I upload any photos on my website by FTP, and when I click on the picture to view full image, I have this message: Error 500 - Internal server error. I have this problem after upgrading. This is my website: http://www.parisrsc.fr/zenphoto/index.php?album=caen-prsc
My photos are hight quality, each photo has on average 2,3MB (maximum size:2MB) and It doesn't have thumbnail...:(
You should try a standart theme and see if it works for you. Your theme is not useing some of Zenphoto as it was intended. Specifically the full image display is not intended for displaying an image within a page.
My problem was: "My host is 1&1, and I dont have thumbnails You will need to open up the .htaccess file and add the following line to it if you are running php4. AddType x-mapp-php5 .php"
