I have tried this with both the nightly and the standard 1.2.3 install. Fresh install each time, no extra plugins used, using the default theme (results same for other official themes).
At the moment I can only get comments to post with the captcha as Zenphoto and the spam filter as nothing. If I select mollom as the captcha It screws up the comments on the actual viewable page only display up until the name field and in the admin section it stops displaying the comment configuration options after the spam field box (no save etc). With Zenphoto captcha enabled and no spam filter comments work without a problem. With mollom or askimet spam filter options enabled it won't post a comment just sticks a # after the url and keeps trying to do something without success.
I have a mollom account and have double/triple checked I have supplied the correct keys in the correct boxes. Do you have any idea what I am doing wrong or what information I can give to help identify the cause.
Also is there a way to change the size of the Zenphoto Captcha at all? It seems awfully difficult to read and I have good vision, I could see this being an annoyance to posters on my site.

As for the Captch, it is pretty much stuck at the size it is. It is using PHP functions to change the character to a graphic and is using the largest font provided. You could change the background image to something that does not obscure the letters so much. Of course, then the bots that try to decipher the text from the image will also have an easier time.

Additionally there are now 5 roughly 39MB files in /gallery folder all named core.##### (##### is a strong of random numbers). I'm not sure what's going here but the time stamps on those files all coincide with the times those errors were generated.
I've switched back to the ZenPhoto Captcha for the time being.
Do you use any spam filters or are you just lucky with a lack of spam?
Anyway, maybe the authors will also be having problems and provide a fix. But clearly, the delaly that akismet is causing is on the server side, not the zenphoto side. As to the blank page from molom, there is probably a script error which could be corrected. Please report the error.
Regardless of who created the plugin as chief developer I'd think you'd want to get to the bottom of this!
Has anyone look into what happens if the plugin can't connect to one Mollom's servers?
I can only speak for myself: This is not about the free account. This is actually about privacy. I won't either create a mollom account as I actually rarely use comments, too. I try to limit my web accounts to the absolutly necessary minimum that I personally need. I know this sounds quite old school in times of social networks everywhere but I do really care about my privacy on the net. I hope you can understand that. I am sure this is what sbillard actually meant, too.
We are a very small team so we can't support everything. I am really sorry that the support status of the spam filters is confusing. We will from now on take all third party stuff out of the official release and offer them as optional downloads to make this more clear.
