Updated instructions for Dreamhost?

I would like to use ZenPhoto on my Dreamhost site as a manual install (not the one-click install, as I want to be able to FTP files) but have encountered the problems indicated elsewhere with getting it to run.

I looked for a guide on what to fix, but the ones I see, such as here:
http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=316&page=2&replies=31

seem to be out of date and not be talking about version 1.2. (The last comment on that post is 8 months old.) I asked Dreamhost and they just pointed me to the standard ZenPhoto installation instructions.

Surely someone else has gotten 1.2.4 to work with Dreamhost. Can you help me figure out how to do so as well?

Thanks!

  • hey yeah I had 1.something working manually on dreamhost.
and I am trying to get 1.25 to work now.

check my other post and I'll keep ya informed here
  • Don't know about updated instructions, but I've been running a manual install (several versions now) on Dreamhost since January at vista.howlingpoint.net with no problems. I don't remember any particular issues with the original install, and the upgrade from 1.2.4 to 1.2.5 went smoothly. Any specific questions about the settings?
  • I've installed ZenPhoto a number of times on Dreamhost (including 1.2.4), always manually, and never run into any problems. It's pretty much a no-brainer. I'm not sure why people think there's a need for special instructions.

About the only thing you need to remember is to include whatever hostname you chose for your database when you created it, instead of "localhost". But given that the web panel tells you that when you create the database, it's kind of hard to miss. :-)

Other than that you just follow the standard ZenPhoto installation directions. There's really nothing complicated about it at all.

If I were writing up "How to install ZenPhoto on Dreamhost" instructions they'd pretty much go like this:
    1. Create a database in the web panel (under Goodies > MySQL).
    2. Install ZenPhoto as per normal instructions, entering the info you chose for your database when you created it.
That's about it, really. If you've run into some particular problem, maybe you can post it specifically.
