Installation; not as easy as directions say.
Help! Please
I'm not very technical when it comes to this sort of thing, but if I have directions I can usually follow them. If I know where to look sometimes I can work it out, but I don't have any idea where to look. I didn't alter anything from unzipping to installing, so I can't see how I something could not install correctly.
If it isn't set up how can change options?
I followed the directions, twice. When I run the set up I get Warnings:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Systems Check:
PHP version 4.3.11
PHP Safe Mode
PHP magic_quotes_gpc [is enabled] Warning!
You should consider disabling magic_quotes_gpc. For more information click here.
(click here takes me nowhere by the way)
PHP gettext() support
PHP mbstring package [is not present] Warning!
Strings generated internally by PHP may not display correctly. (e.g. dates)
PHP MySQL support
zp-config.php file
Strict Permissions [is not in effect] Warning!
When this option is not in effect, file and folder permissions are relaxed. This could constitute a security risk so it is recommended that you enable Strict Permissions. However, on some servers Zenphoto does not function correctly with strict file/folder permissions. If you enable this option and Zenphoto has permission errors, run setup again and disable the option.
NOTE: This option applies only to new files and folders created by Zenphoto. You may have to change permissions on existing ones to resolve problems.
MySQL setup in zp-config.php
Fill in the information below and setup will attempt to update your zp-config.php file.
MySQL admin user *
MySQL admin password *
MySQL host
MySQL database *
Database table prefix
* required
Connect to MySQL
Error!
Could not connect to the MySQL server. Check the user, password, and database host and try again.
Zenphoto core files
.htaccess file (RewriteEngine is ON)
.htaccess RewriteBase is /zenphoto
albums folder
cache folder
locale folders
You need to address the problems indicated above then run setup.php again.

What it doesn't say where to address these issues. If an SQL database is required then it really should say that in the installation directions. I'm using GoDaddy for hosting if that makes a difference.
This is very confusing.
Comments
Sorry you are confused. We would welcome your recommendations on how to make these facts more obvious.

The UN/PW must be correct if I can log in manually from my hosting control panel. What should I be using for database host.
I usually just use the aps that go daddy has on quick install, I've never tried to install anything manually before.
If I fix the database errors will that fix all the other errors? I've been at this for hours.
