password never work on fresh install

Hi, I have just installed zenphoto version 1.2.5 today(no upgrade, no second install), fresh, install by hand: FTP, new database, no script, just the normal setup.
http://xsolo.biz/gzen/zp-core/setup.php here is no error, nothing.
I have write down the user and the password(first time in admin page) and try to login and nothing:
"There was an error logging in. Check your username and password and try again."
So I try to reset, I get the link, reset the password and same stuff "error logging".
I have done this a couple of times and is always the same.
I have read all the threads about password in forum, but I didnt find a solutions.
My host is webair.com, no problems with them.
Thank you, bye, Catalin.
ps: I have try with Strict Permissions "on" and "off" and is the same.
ps2: I noticed "Zenphoto has detected that you're upgrading to a new version." but this is weird because is first time fresh install

  • Did you use any HTML characters in your password? That will not work on the 1.2.5 release.

Setup will always say that you are upgrading if there is already an install existing. Normally you would not be running setup multiple times on the same version.
  • Hi S, the first pass was like this: %*|sHè6hIvBT£é and didnt work, change it a couple of times, now is cba246 and still not working. The user is z2s0l0 (between 0 is "Capital i")
I have access setup in order to change the Strict Permissions.
    Thank you, Catalin
  • "Strict permissions" is not involved with the user/password.

Please upgrade to the 1.2.6 release candidate and tell us if the problem still exists there.
  • Hi, I have upgraded and now is working. I have delete the old master user and his pass and create a new user wit a more "simple" pass, only letter and numbers.
Can you please tell me, for security reason, if I can use pass like this:
    %*|sHè6hIvBT£é
    Thank you very much, Catalin

I believe sbillard recently fixed in the nightly build that special chars are allowed in passwords. Best you just try it.
  • Great, thank you guys, now is working also with the complicated password, thank you again, bye, Catalin.
  • I am having the same trouble. After a fresh install of the latest PHP engine, MySQL, and ZP 1.2.6, I set up the default application pool (yes its a Windows 2k3 server running IIS 6) to parse PHP via php-cgi.exe. I get to the www.mysite.com/zp-core/setup.php setup page - looking good. I set all the directory and file permissions according to the prompts that setup.php wants to see, and set .htaccess file writable and the re-write base variable to "/" as noted. After a couple reloads of setup.php, all is well, and I see the "Go" button, and click on it.

MySQL tables are created and I'm presented with a link to create an admin account. I successfully get to the Admin UI, and create a few admin accounts. I log out, and following that, I cannot log back in to the Admin UI! I get a username/password error every time. Yes, I'm inputting the credentials correctly, because I just created them!

I've tried on more than one client machine, including the server itself. I still cannot log in. This looks to be a great bit of software that I would really like to use, if I can actually administer it.

I cannot get a password reset e-mail either, because zenphoto_sendmail errors out. What do I need to add to Win2K3 to fix this problem?

I saw in another forum post that the nightly build may have fixed this problem. Well, I can tell you that it hasn't, at least not in my case, as I tried applying the nightly build as an update to fix it. Still no joy.

I'd be grateful for any assistance or ideas on how I might proceed.

You can also try to delete the administrators table as suggested on our troubleshooting articles. You might also try the nightly build phpmailer plugin that is provided as an alternative to the normal sendmail (disable that plugin first).

I am sorry other than that I have no idea. I actually do not know anything about Windows IIS servers, we actually recommend Apache because Windows servers are known to frequently cause issues somehow.
  • Thanks for the tip, acrylian.

I did try to delete the zp_administrators table (the .frm, .myd, and .myi files), but then setup.php errored out saying the table already existed, and would not continue. I had to completely remove zenphoto, and re-configure the MySQL instance on the box. After doing this, and reinstalling everything, I was able to run setup.php again, and create a few administrator accounts. But after logging out, I could not log back in again. I was in the same boat.

I will try the phpmailer plug in. How would I go about disabling sendmail in zenphoto?

You probably should use a tool like phpmyadmin to manage the database.

sendmail and phpmailer are plugins in the nightly (the latter requires php 5)
