Gallery thumbnails on non-ZP index/home page?

I tried to search but couldn't seem to get search terms correct, please do direct me to where information may already be to correct me though!
I have my website home-page (index.php) and set up a zenphoto gallery in the following way: www.mysite.com/gallery/
what I would like to do is have 3 or 4 random thumbnails from the gallery displayed on the site's home page. I can't seem to find how to do this but I'm sure it must be possible.
Similarly within the gallery is it possible to have one album of 'recent uploads' at all i.e. most recent 12 (or so) images uploaded...how would I go about setting something like that up?

    Please search our documentation for "randomImages" and also look at the image_album_statistics plugin.
