Because I tried to move some albums to a sub-album and it didn't work, I've to write all the descriptions, title, ... again. For this, I need to be able to read the backup file of the database. How can I do it ? I'm under Mac OS X.
Yeah I know. The problem is that the name of the album and the name of the folder is not the same. Actually, because I've moved the albums, all the albums' name are their names' folder and not the really name I gave previously. That why I need to read the backup file, read the name and copy to rename.
And when I restore, even if the name of the album is correct, nothing works. I've to rewrite all my descriptions (1500 images) !! So that's why I really need to know how to open this file because the restore function doesn't work properly since I updated from 1.2.3 to 1.2.6...
Please what can I do ?? I'm desperate... I would like to put the old 1.2.3 version and restore the database. The problem is I've already updated to 1.2.6 version. What should I do ? Empty the database or delete and recreate it ?
If you are trying to restore from a 1.2.3 backup file to 1.2.6 that might cause trouble. I don't think that this has been tested at all as we change things even with the database setup with every update. If you want to downgrade it might be applicable to empty the database to get the old one restored but I can't guarantee anything.
I am sorry, I can't help with this in detail any further as this backup utility was done by sbillard and I am not familiar with its internals. You will have to wait until he visits the board.
Is this a live site with 1500 images? You should never run tests like this on a live site without having a full backup (including the folder setup which you can easily backup via ftp). Having a full backup is always recommended.
Alternatively if you use EXIF/IPTC data in the future the data would be attached to the images itself.
The "real" name of an album is its folder name, that is what is recognized by Zenphoto as unique being file system based. The title is absolutly independend of that.
Finally I drop all the tables and restore the database with the utility. It seems to work but not totally. For some albums, everything is restored. For some, nothing is restored. That's why I really need a utility to open the database backup file .zdb generated by Zenphoto !
Yeah it's a live site. I know I shouldn't run tests without having a full backup. But I didn't run any test. Just moving some albums to a sub-albums. For me, it was supposed to be a standard operation not destroying everything !
Thank you for your advice. I don't know how to use EXIF/IPTC data on my computer. Just how to read them.
I know the title of an album is totally independent of the name. The problem is that sometimes I use accent in the name and it's a big problem. That's why folder name and title are different !!
Well, sorry that the moving did not work out and that should surely not happen. Therefore the other thread to find out why it does and why for example sbillar could not reproduce it.
With "test" I was referring to the upgrade to test if it works actually.
You can open that file with any text editor like TextWrangler for example (since you are on a Mac) but it looks really confusing.
Regarding EXIF, there is a free tool to add some of these fields. Search on macupdate.com for example
Thank you very much for your help :-) I understand you can't reproduce every problems we experience. It's very nice from you to contribute to this project and to permit to everybody to use it.
I think it's entirely of my fault if it didn't go correctly. I should have updated before. I didn't want because I customised some files 5 months ago and I don't remember exactly which one.
Yeah, I opened the file with TextEdit which is provided by default. Unfortunately, the problem is the ability to read the accent we use in my language. Even with TextWrangler I experience this kind of problem. But it doesn't matter. I've just replaced all the strange characters by the good accent.
Think I'll update soon all my 1756 pictures with the right comments. Don't want to take the risk to loose again my souvenirs.
Of course we need to find out if it was your fault or a bug.
The accents issue could be because your database tables/fields were not in the right encoding then they are encoded instea of show directly. All needs to be UTF-8.
Unless you didn't modify core files that should not be a problem. Of course you can use and keep customized themes (although sometimes they might require updates for newer versions depending what you did).
