View albums by date

Is there an easy way to view albums grouped by date as the links from the archive currently show all images that match a date.

I'd be grateful if anyone can suggest how to modify the archive so that the correct search terms are created or if there's another solution.

I've only a superficial knowledge of php and haven't been able to work this out.

You can set the sortorder of albums and images on the backend. Besides that there is no easy way to do the same as the archive view if you mean that in general in the index. But you could create a dynamic album from that archive search. See the user guide about that.
