can't log in

Hi
I cannot log in to administration. My user name and password do not work. I have looked at some code, looked at the trouble shooting guide. Basically, I need to be able to log in in order to change anything that will allow me to log in. I can't even update without logging in - not that I want to update. I see where I can change adminuser and adminpass but WHERE is that? And that still won't solve the problem, because I can't sign in to anything. My hosting can't help me...they tried. If I reload or update, they say I will lose everything. If I have to lose everything anyway..I don't know.

As sbillard already told on the other thread, here is what to do if you forgot or don't know your password or it does not work: http://www.zenphoto.org/2009/03/troubleshooting-zenphoto/#16
  • that's what I am talking about.....that tells me nothing. WHERE do I go to do that? I don't mean to be beligerent, but where do I go to make those changes? I cannot log in..there is no captcha box, so obviously, I didn't set up an email. I clicked that option on the log in page, but I didn't get an email, so....
Godaddy helped me set this all up, and we were both kind of learning by trial and error. Unfortunately, no one else there seems willing or able to help with the same dedication. It's not their job. I seem to be running around in circles and always asking WHERE do I go to change this adminuser, adminpass?
    Thank you for your patience.

Zenphoto operates with a MySQL database that is provided by your host. You need to access this database with a tool like phpmyadmin and delete the "admin" database table as written on the troubleshooting. If you don't know how to do this please ask your host.

If you installed Zenphoto with a helper script like SimpeScripts instead installing it yourself we can't help with that as we don't know these tools.
  • I have been to my sqldatabase and phpmyadmin.
My host is unhelpful. If I manage to get a person that is willing to learn as they go, they will help, but if the person the lottery chooses to answer my call isn't willing, they say, "I am sorry we don't handle third party software." I got the former kind of help when I went to set this up, and the latter kind of help today.
I will go back and look, but none of this is jumping out at me. I did not use a helper script. Godaddy walked through all the steps with me and sometimes, we had to go back and start over. But as I said before, I have never had to log in until the other day after several weeks of down time. It was always just...there.
    Thanks I will keep trying.
  • Cathy - I'd recommend starting from scratch and following the installation guide by yourself step by step rather than having your host help by trial and error.

I'll admit for someone (like myself) to get ZenPhoto going it required hours (days really) of patient troubleshooting to get the software working properly.

Now - I'd be more than happy to help you if you'd like.
  • Also - you know how to get to the log in page right? It's http://www.yoursite/wherever_you_installed_zenphoto/zp-core/admin.php

That will bring you your log in page.

yes, I can get to a log in page. I cannot log in, though. I am afraid to delete the admin table as suggested in troubleshooting #16 because I don't know how to put it back or what it will do for me. THAT part isn't explained. After I delete it, will I be able to log in and set new un and pw?

I am afraid to delete the admin table as suggested in troubleshooting #16 because I don't know how to put it back or what it will do for me. THAT part isn't explained.

    It IS explained... I cite:
Run setup to recreate the table. You will be prompted to enter a new admin user name and password. Now be sure there is an email address to send the reset link the next time!

The setup program you should already have used when installing Zenphoto initially and is found under `www.yoursite.come/zenphoto-or-wherever-you-put-it/zp-core/setup.php`.
  • So, if I delete the administrator table from my sql database, when i go to mysite.com/zenphoto/zp-core/setup.php, there won't be a log in screen? 'cause right now, in order to run set that, I need to log in.
yes it tells me to run set up. I agree. explain how. click? Will it be obvious? I know you already think I am a moron, and you are probably right. I only know enough to get in trouble, as my husband says.
  • Okay. So I deleted the admin table and went to the set up that you mentined and IT WANTS ME TO LOG IN!
With what do I log in? Oh, and by the way, the captcha option was on the adnim log - in page last time, so I used it to send me a new password and I got "Internal server error."
  • I finally got an email telling me to go here:

    http://www.catherinesphoto.com/zenphoto/zp-core/admin-options.php?ticket=4bc75e49157b4c74a93326b117819a87&user= my name

this is to reset my password. Guess what's there? YUP! I log in screen!
  • I think that justindh81 has the best suggestion. Start from scratch with an new installation. If you really did delete the admin table you would not be being asked to login as there is nothing to check the login against. So I think maybe you have multiple sets of tables and do not know which really goes with your installation.

Also, the above ticket link bypasses the login requirement, so I think maybe you do not have the current Zenphoto or you have managed to get a mixed set of scripts from various versions. Yet another indication that it is time to start from scratch.

This time, use the Zenphoto install instructions. Do not use some third party script. So far, the only times people have had problems as you describe is when these third party scripts were somehow involved.
  • Thank you. I will take your advice. When I went back into godaddy, the admin table was still there and I don't know why (I deleted myself - godaddy didn't do it for me). Also, since godaddy helped me set it up, and I don't know what a third party script is, I would have to bow to your knowledge there - as you are a developer. Thanks again.
  • Cathy - if you'd like help getting going I can help you install it. I know how frustrating it is to get this thing going for someone who's new, so, just say the word.
  • I would like some help, justinh...thanks. I have been trying to figure out a course of action and tonight, I re-uplaoded zenphoto unsuccessfully. The files are there in my hosting site, but not only can I not get anything working, my gallery that was linked to my website is no longer visible. All kinds of funky errors. I appear to have two sets of zenphoto - a plain one and a 1.2.6. Where do I go from here?
    Thanks for anything..
  • PS I was also never prompted to make up a user name and password - recall that I cannot log into the admin page. I did delete the administrator table but could never get the files to upload successfully after than, so I uploaded the 1.2.6. That didn't work, so I tried restoring my backup sql. that's when I got two versions in the same place. I wouldn't even mind just starting over from scratch and having to rebuild my albums (it is just such a classy looking gallery site) but I cannot log in and now I cannot even view.
  • Well, if you did "re-install" you would have only one set of files. I would suggest that you follow the installation instructions and delete the old set of Zenphoto files first then upload the new ones. Of course, first make note of the details in your zp-config.php script so that you know what the answers are to the questions setup will ask about your database user/password, etc.

Also, please do not start a new thread on this topic. You will have a better chance of getting support if the full thread is there for anyone to see and help. Also, be a little patient. My collegue lives in Germany and I live in California. That gives us pretty good 24 hour coverage, but we are not on this forum every moment of the day so it may take a few hours to see a response.
  • I have started a new thread updating. I did delete and re-install, losing all my albums in order to try to start from scratch. It still doesn't work. the new thread has been closed, I noticed. So I will elaborate. When I re-installed, I still was not prompted for a user name and password, as I was told would happen when I went to mysite.com/zenphoto/zp-core/setup.php. It tells me the link was broken.
  • A new thread is neither warranted nor desirable.

Please describe the exact steps you have gone through during your install. You must first be able to run the setup program before there is any chance of setting your user/password. Since you are getting a failed link trying to run that script, something must be wrong with how you installed the files.
  • using filezilla, I dragged and dropped the unzipped zenphoto files into the remote site section. When I go to godaddy at mysql database, there are zenphoto files there.
  • Hi, I'm also having a problem whereby I cannot log into the admin control panel. Last night I installed Zenphoto at home for the first time, and added about 13 and a half thousand pictures. Seems to have worked fine. Big "BUT" here... but... whenever I try to log on to the Admin console from another computer, I cannot log in, I can only log in from the computer that I installed it from.

Are there cookies or something that are only readable from the computer on which Zenphoto was installed? I re-ran the zp-core/setup.php but it's telling me that "Perhaps there was a problem with the upload..." and gives me a huge list of files to check... what's to check? They're all present, chmoded 777 to all of them... still cannot log into the control panel.

I like the simplicity of Zenphoto - others just have too much baggage and I'd like to get this resolved if I can.

    Thanks,
    Dan

No, Zenphoto operates with cookies to store the login status (or optionally with sessions) but those do not affect the login on other computer.

Cookies of course need to be enabled in the browser you are using.

Setup often reports about that if your ftp programm was not fast enough to upload all files then a variance in the file time is. This often can be ignored. Best you check the files setup complains about (if missing etc).
