manually sorting albums via code?

Is there some way to sort a bunch of albums "outside" the admin interface, which requires click & drag? I have a lot of albums to sort, and if there was some way to just assign each a number in a text file, it'd save me a lot of time. Is there some file containing the sort order I can edit?

fwiw, I do like the click and drag sort, but it's quite a task when you have dozens of albums to straighten out...

    No, that is not possible if you mean without extra coding. The sortorder ist stored in the database.

    Zenphoto automatically sorts albums how it discovers them an the file system (please see the troubleshooting about that). Also there are several options to sort like alphabetical, by id etc. on the backend.
