Does it work with 1&1?

Hi th everyone,

first of all: thanks for this awesome software!

As I'm an absolute beginner on stuff like that I like to ask You if it is possible at all to install ZenPhoto with the provider 1&1?
- they offer an installation (only safe mode) so I guess it should work - at least basically?
Installation works fine and I can logon etc. - But when I want to set an album name e.g. then hit apply, it turns green, says "changes applied",but the name or description is gone...

I did a new install ending up the same:-( Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but there is not much I can do up to this point...

Thanks in advance!

P.S: don't hit me too hard - I'm a ZenPhoto beginner but willing to learn ;-)

Generally it should work from their general configurations. It is really recommended to have safe mode turned off as that can cause issues.

I can't believe that a big hoster like 1&1 would have that enabled nowaday. Best you talk to them about that or consider looking for another host. There are lots and they are not more expensive (we won't recommend any specific host here but you could look at the hosting advertisements page on our site).
  • Also check the version of Zenphoto they are installing. Current version is 1.4.5.5. Often hosters do not keep up with fixes, etc. so you experience problems that have been long corrected. This may be the case with your descriptions.

So far as I know, you should be able to make a manual install of the current version of Zenphoto on 1&1. That would at least get you up-to-date with fixes.

I concur with acrylian that "save mode" is a really bad selection. First, there is nothing "safe" about it. Second, it severely restricts what scripts can do to the point where some functionality is not available.
  • Thanks a lot for both replies! -I'll do further research on the error and what alternatives I have (other provider e.g.).
