Modify album thumbnail to scale on width?

Hello, is there a way to scale my album's thumbnail to scale based on the width. By default, it seems to scale based on height. I don't want to crop the thumbnail, but simply scale it based on a maximum width.

I searched the forum, but it looks like the posts I found are from 5-6 years old and don't pertain to the latest version (1.4.5.5).

    You can set on the options if the size of uncropped images should use the width or the height as the measure.

    Also there is a set of "maxspace" image functions available that let you set a maxwidth and maxheight an uncropped image should not exceed. This will require that you modify your theme. Please see the theming tutorial and review the functions guide.
