How do I right-click protect my photos?

I'd like to protect my photos so that viewers can't right click and save the image. How do I do that? BTW, I'm a photographer, not a developer, so the super-dumb version would be MOST helpful. :D

Thanks!

The "super dumb" version to protect images on the net is not to put image on the net.

You can disable the right click via Javascript but all someone has to do to enable it is again to disable javascript in his browser. Also any image you view in your browser has already been downloaded, to the cache of the browser, otherwise you won't see it.

Sorry, this request is really pointless (and not really Zenphoto related). See also this older thread http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=5386#post-31349 or please search the net.
  • thanks, I take your point--but unfortunately as a professional photographer, allowing prospective clients to view my work on the web is vital to my business. And yes, I know there is no way to completely protect images from theft--but no need to facilitate it, KWIM?

I did search for right-click protect to see if the question had already been asked, and I couldn't find that older thread. Didn't mean to beat a dead horse.

And I'm sorry that you didn't feel my question was zenphoto related--I thought it might be an option somewhere in the admin tools that I wasn't seeing. Obviously it's not, I appreciate your help.

Disabling the right click is really a very old topic on the net itself not only here. It can be annoying as the right click can be used for other things than saving, too (on the other thread another user explained that).

This is not Zenphoto related because it is a general web technique thing. You can setup your theme to do that if you really wish. Try a web search and you will find loads of entries about this topic. There are also other tricks but similar useless. Who really wants to get them gets them.

I can understand your concerns but it is just unnecessary and useless work to try to protect the images on the net. Zenphoto generally uses sized down images from the full images you upload that are not suitable for printing. You can attach watermarks, too. The full images can be protected but should of course not be hires images anyway.
  • Have you considered watermarking your images as acrylian suggests? (Zenphoto can do that.) Or, perhaps only uploading small web quality images?

You relly should do the topic searches that acrylian has indicated. You cannot prevent people from having copies of your WEB based images on their computers. The very act of viewing the imate places it in the browser cache on the client computer. Once there he can do anything with it. No need to right click or anything.

@antony09: No need to buy software, Zenphoto does that already...therefore the link has been removed.
