Adding date and time to galleries

anybdy know how to begin adding the last modified date to a gallery description?

i would like to see about making it easy to determin if you are rehashing old pictures only just by browsing the gallery index...

ultimate goal would be that adding an image would reflect a change to the album description or some other pertinent and easily viewed section.

this would cut down on bandwidth by users who visit frequently for updates and could temporarily serve those of us that are itching for a "recent images" update to the system.....
