Album Size Limits?

I'm having a problem with the ZenPhoto installation on my website. The zen section is at

http://www.rapidfiresports.com/zen/

Though it is working now, it's only because I've limited the images. In the "hockey" subdirectory, currently there are four galleries. However one of the galleries does not contain all the images it should.

This is by my doing, as it was the only way to get it to work. With the full list of images, when trying to load the "Hockey" page, ZenPhoto would simply load no galleries at all, and give up trying to load after the album description. Additionally, this would affect the admin pages, as the galleries would no longer show up in the albums section. The only way to get them to reappear was by deleting a number of images.

Also, it does not appear to be a problem with any specific image as this has occurred before when trying to load images to the galleries. My only thought, given that my galleries are all ridiculously large and deleting images helped is there is some sort of size limit for albums.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? What should I do?

Thanks,

Phil

The only limit for albums is the space on your server and the power of that server to process the images. Since your site is password protected I can't see the issue. It is most likely this: http://www.zenphoto.org/2009/03/troubleshooting-zenphoto/#11

There should be an error message in your server's error log.

Also make sure that the images in question are really set to visible/published.
  • I looked through that and I'm not sure it applies. The images are all below VGA resolution, and it would seem as though (I may be reading it wrong) that that problem would occur if one image is causing an issue.

Here, it's not one image, but a collective mass of images that ends up causing the problem. The images are visible/published, but it not only keeps those specific ones from showing, but all of the subgalleries in the "hockey" section.

I looked through my logs for my server and found nothing - that said I've never had to look through them before, so it's kinda challenging to be sure of what I'm looking for exactly.

If I unpassword protect them might it help in diagnosing the problem? Especially given that currently there IS no problem as I've limited the number of images... it's only if I put more in that a concern arises.
  • Quite possibly your server does not have the power to process this large list of albums within the time-out limits for scripts. This would manafest itself as an incomplete page--i.e. you would be missing items that should be at the bottom portion of the page such as footers.

If this is the case, the problem could resolve itself once all thumbnails and sized images have been cached.
  • That's interesting to note. I'll have to contact the web server regarding that. If you're right about the problem, you say it could resolve itself once all thumbnails and sized images have been cached... is there some way I can force this to happen?
  • You can get the "front-end" images cached by using the cache image button on the album page. 'Fraid there is not any way to cache the back-end thumbnails.
