multilingual zenphoto - only english titles in google search

Hi
I have multilingual installation of zenphoto Polish and English. My primary and most important is polish. From time when I enable multilingual option and English version my pages in google started to show in English. That's normal because googlebot is English and it crawl English version of page but I don't like it. For polish keywords I would like to have polish titles of pages and polish content in google search engine. What can I do to have polish content results in Google?

Do you have "http accept language" enabled in the options? If enable the site switches automatically to what the visitor tells it to prefer (you can set that on browser, too. Of course works only if the language is available). Try setting the site to "polish" there.
  • The problem is I would like to have "http accept language" option enabled and correct description in Google search engine. I think there must be another version of pages for each language with different url for correct crawling it by google bot. When "http accept language" option is enabled google bot crawls it only in English version.

Sorry, but we simply don't have separate urls for languages but I see that Google likes different urls for each language. We will investigate on the possibilities. So please submit a ticket on this.

Quick update: sbillard coded a plugin that allows setting the language via the url as well: seo_locale. It is in the current nightly build. Please give it a try. The new sitemap-extended plugin will get support for this within the next days as well.
  • Where can I see more info about the usage of this plugin besides the seo_locale.php comments? The documentation page isn't teling me enough to undertand what I have to do...

    Thanks!

It is quite simple. To change the language via url just use something like:
    `yourdomain.com//`

This will switch to German. Although you need it only once to switch as it is remembered in the session/cookie as before. You can of course use it on every url direcly. But Zenphoto's internal urls do not change as a normal users does not need it.

The included sitemap-extended plugin does support this so you don't need to care about google not finding these urls.
  • A working example would be:

    http://www.domainname.com/de_DE/page/contact

    Right?
  • Yep, it works :P
It took me a while to understand the notations.
    Sry for bothering you:P

    Update:

    One question though...
Can googlebot locate the sitemap all alone or should I include a link somewhere in the footer or sidebar ?

You can either tell Google or others via the robot.txt or submit the sitemap url directly:
    http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=156184
  • I think It's better with robots.txt.
Thanks for help yet again :D
