Having a hard time getting basic functionality

I installed several weeks ago into a website for my daughter. Downloaded several themes and she decided M9 was most attractive.

She created two albums uploaded a few pictures and everything seemed fine. After a few weeks she added more albums and lots of pictures. Problems now.....

We seem to have developed an Album called Pet Portraiture inside the prior album Pet Portraiture and we can't get rid of it. The albums that are working (sort of) will display thumbs but when you click a thumb to open up large image you get a red x in the frame. When you manually refresh the screen then the large image appears.

When trying to work within admin to correct this extra unwanted album page loading is painfully slow. When clicking on the Album tab I get a page with at least 1/2 of the button icons missing and eplaced with red x's.

This is the second time I have uploaded the entire package for her and run into major problems. Is this likely a server incompatibility I'm on a Linux with 5.2.8 PHP
and 5.0.90 MySql ? Is it a bad theme ? I can't believe the software itself is as useless as it seems to be. Link to gallery is

Thanks for any suggestions

Steve

  • Please do two things.

First select one of the 4 standard themes (em>default would be a good choice.) does the problem show with that them? If not, then the M9 theme is the culpret.

Also look at your folder structure via an FTP client. What is the folder structure of the "Album" folder? Do the extra copies of pet Portraiture show up in the structure? Then somehow you have created these albums in a nested fashion.

Finally, you are running Zenphoto version 1.2.8. The current release is version 1.2.9. In addition, there are the nightly build files. On the off chance that there was a problem with the Zenphoto software you should try these releases to see if things have got fixed.

It is unlikely that the version of PHP or MySQL would cause such problems. Both are at a reasonable level.
  • Thanks for the reponse I decided to examine the DB and I see the problem but I have no idea how or why. I have 67,000 albums of pet portraiture nested and nested and nested ad infinitum. Now I know for certain my daughter did not make the same mistake 67,000
times. Something is self replicating. She had started with an album called "Pet Portraiture" then tried to create a sub album called "rescue pets" to that parent album
that seems to be where she or the software screwed up. At this point I can't get back to the admin page at all, I assume it can't open because its trying to address all these
albums. Would you reccomend deleting all the excess rows from the DB then seeing what we're left with ?

    Thanks

  • In the 18 minutes since my post above the DB was up from 67,000 to 88,000 albums. Not knowing how to stop it I deleted the DB. In the file structure there was an error that was probably hers she had a pet-portraiture and a petportraiture. They were nested twice each along with the .jpgs that were included in those galleries. What set the DB into th replication mode I have no idea. Is there a way to create a new DB then have zen initialize it then upgrade versions ?
  • Drop the Database tables and re-run the setup program. The tables will be recreated.

If I remember correctly this was an reported bug in the move/copy functionality on the backend that recursively copied albums to itself endlessy. This is fixed in 1.2.9 for sure.
  • I'll just start from scratch, since the uploaded photos in the DB are now gone anyway. I'll install 1.2.9 and tell her to drop the idea of sub albums in the future. Thanks for the responses.

Really no need to do that because as said that was a bug in 1.2.8 that is now fixed.
