Permissions Issues

I have searched the forums but haven't found note of the issues I'm having.

I am using the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, and have php5, sqlserver, and all that jazz installed without issue.

I was getting a bunch of permissions errors but cleared most of them up by making www-data the owner of the noted folders (it was telling me to chmod them to 777, but isn't that a bit of a security risk?)

Anyhow, I cleared the errors out (mostly), published my site, and it was text only - no images appeared at all.

Is this a known error, am I doing something wrong that you've seen before?

Thank you,

-S

  • The permissions needed for a particular server are dependent on the configuration of that server, not Zenphoto. Zenphoto will work nicely with reasonable secure permissions. However, if PHP/Server, etc are not configured correctly, then Zenphoto will be denied access to items it needs. If that is the case you must relax the permissions.

So, if permissions are preventing zenphoto from working you still have work to do. On the other hand, you should check your error logs to be sure you do not have some other problem like for instance, not enough memeory to process your images.
