Many Users

I have yet to see a way to make users on the system. I'm setting up a family photo gallery for my complete family and I wanted my family to be able to upload images. I was hoping to not have to give everyone the admin account, but I don't know any other way to do it.

Please help if there's a plugin or a way to do this

  • If family can use FTP client, then you could create an album file name and then allow then to FTP images to the file. Some hosts (eg powweb) allow you to create limited FTP user accounts, limiting those accounts to only FTP to specific files.
  • Yeah, I don't think my family is tech savvy enough to use an FTP client. So, that's pretty much out of the question.
  • sounds like mine. Only kind of cookies they know have chocolate chips...!

Multiple users would make things slightly more complex, but I think it would add value, so I'll think about it.

Currently though, zenphoto only supports one user through the admin interface -- if you can figure out a way to get the uploads through with another system (FTP or web-based) that would work.

If you're looking for a multi-user system, one of the more complex galleries like Gallery or Coppermine might be for you. Good luck!
  • Well, I guess I'll have to do that, but think about maybe adding user support. I like Zenphoto too much to abandon it completely.

That's a high compliment that you like it even though it doesn't do what you want. Means I've been doing something right... ;-) Thanks, I'll definitely think about it.
  • This seems to be possible. On the 'Upload' section of the tools, when you want to create a new album, it could default to userid/albumname, or username/albumname. This way, each user can have their own album in their folders.
Guys, I'm new to this forum, and love this product. I am a versatile programmer in Los Angeles. Can I join the programming team? I also want to implement this product on our site. I noticed it is covered under GNU license. Is that right? Will I need to put your sitename at the bottom of the section of my site I implement the PhotoAlbum? Thanks guys...
  • Has any more thought been given to a multiple user system?

This is what I would like to be able to do:

I would like to have the ability for users (guests) to be able to upload photos by way of a web form. Then have those photos appear in the admin panel for approval or not. If approved the photo would then appear online, or if not approved it would just be deleted.

Has anyone implemented something like this or have any idea on how this could be accomplished?

    Thanks.
  • nsnipes - this is actually what I'd like too.

trisweb great product hopefully you are still giving great thought to adding user accounts to the system, like nsnipes I would want to be able to give users access to upload but not approve, an Admin would need to approve. It would also need the ability to move an image from a temporary upload folder to its gallery folder once approved set by the Admin, while this can be done with FTP it would be great if it can be done by the Admin interface.

    Cheers
  • I'm thinking of making something like this. I have made a complete user system for an other site of mine, but i never finished that website. I have the idea of building a gallery page for me, my friens and family for a while now. If i find an opensource java upload applet i'll go and build this gallery. I can share my files en progress if you guys would like that. Maybe someone else can build a plugin/gadget of it so it can be used in ZenPhoto. I'm not 100% sure i'll be using ZenPhoto as the base cms, but i'll probably will. If looked at a lot of opensource gallery cms but none of them really suited 100% of my wishes. Maybe gallery did, but it's a bit to extensive. Only the base installation is more than 30 MB :s

I'll make a new topic if i start this project.
