First some technical term definition: "Gallery" refers always to the Zenphoto installation ifself, all else are albums.

You can only assign users to top level albums. If you haven't please read: http://www.zenphoto.org/2008/07/an-overview-of-zenphoto-users/
  • I want to setup user (photographer in my case), that can upload his own albums, and can manage his own albums the he newly uploads only.

I do understand that that currently we can assign users to an album. But im looking for uploading and manging users very own galleries.
  • So, did you actually read the text in the link acrylian posted? What exactly about the post did you not understand?

[or have you managed to use "gallery" in the zenphoto defined sense? In that case your answer should be obvious. You need to install a gallery for each user you wish to have manage his own "gallery".]
  • Sbillard did u actually read my response to acrylian? My concern is about "albums". One unified gallery with albums with different contributing users. Why would I make multiple installations of zenphoto just to give a user permissions to his own album.

I realized in my other post you have been sarcastic and hostile in your responses. Please Understand that a majority of people will not post their questions or concerns in a forum. They would just look for answers and leave. Therefore they are dependent on questions like mine be answered. You know its a fact for every post or comment in a forum, their are far more views than post.

If the feature im requesting is not available then fine, or if misunderstanding ask for clarification. Im a developer, so im making legit thought out inquiries. In conclusion lets make our responses. Fruitful and not hostile. This is helping the zenphoto community as a whole
  • Ronnie, you could enable the user-groups plugin which is included in the zenphoto distribution and set the permissions for the "newly registered users". That might work, though I haven't fussed with the user/groups much.

Also, I believe kagutsuchi made a filter/plugin that might fit the niche you're trying to fill. Do a forum search for "filter-personal_album".

Here we go, this might help you:

Ronnie, sbillard is sometimes a little sarcastic but if you have been here for over three years like we had you will be as well.

A lot of people like to define their own preferences or opinions as if they were valid for all. This is clearly not always the case, if you are a developer or not. (we don't know anything about you yet, not even the site you are talking about).

We had plenty of these type of posters who wanted all their way and that at once (while we are volunteers that "need" to do nothing for anyone). And some don't even took the time to read the links we postsed.

Sorry but sometimes your post sound a little like that even if you might not intend it that way. You surely know that written text in e-mails or elsewhere on the net often results in unexpected and mostly unnecessary missunderstandings. You are the new one here.

If you look around you see that we are quite more helpful with even details than many other open source project forums I know, even with less resources than others.

    Thanks for listening...:-)

    PS: Michaell's suggestions are good.
  • Thanks guys. I can pm u my sites and zenphoto project in the works which interacts with phpfox community.

No hurry. You can submit the Zenphoto site to the showcase once it is ready. If you have already other Zenphoto using sites feel free to submit them as well. Our forum has no pm feature.

This is rediculous. Whats the purpose of using Zenphoto when it takes forever to edit albums. I have over 3,000 galleries and 600,000 pics withing those galleries. I transfered them over from plogger, and now i can edit and album because it takes over an hour to load.
When you start hostility, you might just expect people to react to it. Besides, you did use the word "gallery" to describe your albums even though you have been cautioned that the term means something different in Zenphoto. Sure, old habits are hard to break. But then also the user management document should have provided you the information you were seeking about albums [not galleries]. Seems that you did not get that from the article, thus I asked what you did not understand.
  • I explored the options above, and i got the ideas given. However, I was looking for the option to have a group or select users the ability to create/upload his own albums, without the ability to have access to entire album database that he did not create. Only the albums he created.

Basically imagine having a website that shows party events, and different photographers are allowed to upload photos to the website. But he can only upload and edit his own gallery. Thefore the group of photographers that take pics of different events can upload their own albums. All of the users albums will appear on 1 page.

No sub albums or categories. Everyones albums will appear in one gallery like this : http://www.7dias7noches.net/zenphoto/

this is the gallery im working on with zenphoto, but its not really like to my website viewers yet.

Any ideas to implement this functionality?

Currently I have my photographers send me albums by email for upload. But now i want them to upload themselves, without giving the power to any 1 person to wipe out all galleries.
  • First, password protect the site. This makes it so that no one without the correct credentials can see anything. If you want to have some public albums, then you will need to password protect those albums you do not want to be publicly viewable.

Now, for each user/group set the managed albums to the album(s) that you want that user/group to be able to be able to manage. Set the user/group rights to include "albums" and perhaps "view all" if you want every user to see all the albums. Also set "upload" so that they can upload new items to their album(s).

Give them any other rights you think appropriate.
