Setting up Imagick on a shared host

I'd like to switch from Menalto Gallery to Zenphoto but to process the images I have (>5500px wide) GD doesn't cut it, and color profiles are something I'd like to retain too. Is there a (cheap) shared host that supports the imagick plugin and also allocates enough memory to process modern images?

I have access to dreamhost, hostmonster and hostgator accounts at the moment but my Zenphoto installs on each host (ZP versions 1.3.1.2 and 1.2.9) fail to detect imagick.

Well, those big images (dimensionwise, see the troubleshooting) will surely exceed most shared hostings, especially cheap ones...

We really recommend to process the images before uploading. No real need for full sized, printable image to waste space on a website (unless you want to offer them for download).
  • Thanks, acrylian.

I have ZenPhoto working now on hostmonster using GD and a custom php.ini (256M memory limit) - Gallery3 has me on the brink of jumping off a bridge, so GD will have to do for now.

Client deliver of the original images is actually an important function for me. I don't use my website in that way very often but I manage a gallery for a friend who does on a regular basis. I've long despised the ingest process with Gallery (among other things) making ZP very refreshing indeed...
