Gallery Statistics Help...

Have done several ZenPhoto sites now and I love it...all have custom themes and cool modifications and work great.

Converting my personal site to also incorporate ZenPage (was just using ZenPhoto before) and I'm not seeing my stats work...ZenPage stuff OR Gallery stuff. They are working on my current "live" site - just not this new version...Also working fine on other ZenPage'd sites I've done...

I had a friend tool around too and still nothing. (Thinking it was because it was recognizing my IP or something - even though I was logged out and using different computers) I've temporarily added a "hits on this page" script just to see any change...but nothing yet.

Any insight on how the stats work so I can investigate what I might have done in the conversion process?

I did migrate some DB stuff over could that be the issue?
I did refresh the DB and still nothing.

I like to modify stuff but haven't touched anything page hits related...

As I said all my other sites are working just fine.

It's almost there a few more things to go...
version 1.3.1.2
http://nucci.mikemartinelli.com/

As I mentioned this works fine for seeing gallery stats...
version 1.2.6
http://www.mikemartinelli.com/

Other sites I'm using are versions 1.2.8 and they work great as well...ZenPage and ZenPhoto...

Much appreciated,
Mike

Could you maybe be a little more specific? About what "gallery stats" are we talking. If you say "Gallery statistics" I understand you refer to the utility on the overview page. I am quite sure that utility did not exist in 1.2.6 or or 1.2.8 then and it of course is a backend feature anyway.

So do you mean things like latest images and such? What exactly is not working? The general functionality of these did not really change if you use the standard functions.
  • I'm referring to Gallery Statistics on the overview tab of the admin section...

    Albums - most viewed
    No statistic available

    Images - most viewed
    No statistic available

    Pages - most viewed
    No statistic available

    News Articles - most viewed
    No statistic available

    News Categories - most viewed
    No statistic available

Additionally, when you're in the EDIT mode of a page or a news article or album there is a "Reset hitcounter (Hits: 0)" checkbox in the General Section and they all say (Hits: 0)

And my version of 1.2.6 has this Gallery Statistics button on the overview tab and it functions just fine...

Just trying to figure out how these stats work so I can figure out what's going on...

    Thanks,
    Mike
  • None of these statistics, etc. log access by administrators of the site, so if you are just starting out that may be the issue. Try logging off and viewing a few pages.
  • I tried that. As mentioned I tried several different computers as well (Not Logged In) and I also had a friend in a different state browse the site...

Not sure if you clicked around or not but still showing 0.

Just trying to figure out how these stats work so I can figure out what's going on...

  • The stats mentioned are all based on the hitcounter (which corresponds to your edit tab observation.) So, the question is, do you have the hitcounter plugin enabled?
  • It wasn't. Much appreciated. I looked only for "Statistics" in plugins not "hit counter" lol. The old versions I was previously using must be "on" by default as there is no hit counter selection in plugins...

All pages seem to be counting except for the home page...which is a "Page" set as custom Homepage under custom theme options...no biggy though perhaps unpublished pages aren't kept track of? I don't know I'll keep playing...

    Thanks for the help,
    Mike
  • Yup looks like unpublished pages don't get counted...any way around that?

    (last question I promise)

    :-)
  • "Page" should be getting hits counted. If you put hitcounts out in your theme, it should show counts.

But there are no statistics generated for such pages. Might be a good enhancement. As would some indicaton that the reason there are no hits is because they are not being counted. Perhaps acrylian will add these features.

Have to look into the bit on unpublished pages. That is not intentional.
  • Cool thanks. All is working well and being counted except for the "unpublished" home page. To make a page the home page it has to be unpublished. As a test I "published" it and it was getting hits...

    Thanks again,
    Mike
  • How is the "upublished" home page accessed? It would not normally show in a menu except to a logged in user. I see nothing that would cause unpublished pages not to be counted if visited by "guests".

I also don't remember that unpublished pages are not counted. Regarding the hitcounter being off we will add a note about that and the most viewed statistics for the next release.
  • It's set to "home" via a custom theme option (as seen in screen shot below)
    http://content.screencast.com/users/n20capri/folders/Misc/media/83189c41-eeb6-4be6-af53-d95ffbb3bb52/page as home.JPG

So it's the actual home page of the site and accessed when you access the site:
    http://nucci.mikemartinelli.com/
    or
    http://nucci.mikemartinelli.com/index.php

I even switched over to a different stock theme that has "page" as home page option and still wasn't being counted until published.

I will pass this to my collegue to answer. If this works like the Zenpage theme then the theme page for pages is called via included within index.php. This might be taken not as a page but as the index page internally by the hitcount since the context would probably be index. I am not sure about that right now.
  • It's based off of Zenpage yes. Just as a test I switched over to the Zenpage theme and it's still not counting unpublished page.

Thanks for the help guys...let me know what else I can test...
  • What you are seeing is an artifact of how that page is loaded. It is not being counted because the zenphoto core does not even know of it. I will discuss with acrylan (the theme author) on how this might be changed.
