problems with new googlemap plugin

hi,

i recently upgraded to zenphoto 1.4 and i have some problems with the new googlemap plugin:

i tried to create an album map for the default/dark theme by copying most of the code from the effervescence_plus code.

however, the initial zoom is completely wrong for this map, e.g. http://back-country.org/zenphoto/icelandtrek/

if i activate the "hide" option in the admin panel, clicking on "show map" link in the album seems to run a javascript which pretty much crashes (or slows down) firefox (this problem is not reproducable every time)...

any suggestions on how to solve these problems?

also, i was wondering if there is an option to have a different map size on the album page?

  • update: i just noticed that the zoom in the album map is correct for safari, but firefox (win+mac versions) and ie zoom into a different area

also, the album map in safari takes much longer to load than the standard google map page?!
  • I do not know why there would be differences between browsers in the Javascript execution. There is a small bit of javascript needed to set the bounding frame (zoom) the map. This is a very small javascipt function, but who knows what the Google processing requires.

One of the theories I have on this might be a localization issue as I have not been able to reproduce the problems. Only reports so far have been from Euorpe.
  • Seems like you're right: Switching the language preference of Firefox from German to English fixes the zoom...

I guess Safari shows the correct zoom because my language preference is set to English there.

Still, it would be great if this could be fixed for languages different than English ;)
  • Well, Zenphoto does do nothing different for GoogleMap for different languages. However, the Google Map processing has known issues when rendering a map in "the wrong sized" frame. So maybe your site is a bit different in German. Be sure that the map dimensions fit within whatever CSS "frame" you have defined.
