New features - Comment Form and Next Image on click

Hello,
I would like to suggest some new features.

First, the comment form is too poor in options.
- When adding new comments, a confirmation/OK message should be shown.
- When I've all comments marked for moderation, I don't wont to see an error message, but a confirmation/OK message.
- Possibility to remove the website box is welcome.

The contact form is so much better and rich in options. It's a good example.

Second, when you click in one image, moving to the next one it's a good option (Facebook style). I've already implemented this on my website (www.martinsbastos.com), since it can be done on the Themes side.

Thanks in advance and keep up the goo work.

  • We welcome suggestins. Certainly the forum is a good starting place for discussion. However, once you are sure what to suggest you should create a ticket on the Track system. Otherwise there is no possibility of follow up/through.

Now, for your particular case. I wonder what version of Zenphoto you are using and what theme.

There certainly are quite a number of options, so I hardly think that "poor" in options is a good description. Perhaps the options you desire are not there.

If you do not see an error message when posting a comment that is placed in moderation then there is something wrong with your theme as it is displayed for normal themes. Nor does there seem a need for a confirmation message since the comment is listed after the posting if accepted.

I'm not sure I understand the second suggestion with regard to clicking on the image. There are breadcrumbs for moving among the images. Normally clicking on the image itself produces the display of the image orignal. But in any case this is a theme decision, easliy changed (as you must have learned.)
  • Thanks for the kick reply,
I'm using the latest ZenPhoto version with the default theme.

    I might had explained bad:
When I add a comment to a photo, the moderation message it's displayed. But the message "Error posting comment" displayed in a red background, discourage the users to post messages, in my opinion. I can change this in the comment_form.php, but this is not in the Theme php files.

About the plug-in being poor in options, is just my opinion, for example, compared with your own “Contact Form” plugin. But you're completely right in one point... it's because of the options I want are not there!

About the second one, yes, you understood well. Clicking on the image can have the same behavior has the “NEXT” breadcrumb, and this could be an option. Just a suggestion.

Anyway, you guys have some fantastic work here, so once again, thanks.
  • Please create a ticket with your requested options for the comment form handling.
  • I would concur that displaying the message "Error posting comment" is very confusing - especially in a red background. It gives the impression that something has gone wrong with the posting when it is simply waiting for moderation.

I am installing Zenphoto on a site and have had several comments (no pun intended!) to this effect from those testing the albums before going live.

Having said that this is an outstanding piece of software. As I've waded through the installation I've often thought "I wish I could ...." only to discover, after much searching and googling, that the feature is already there only hidden away somewhere.

Thank you for all your work.

I rarely use comments so I did not notice. Again, as my collegue said, please open a ticket.
  • My apologies - I thought the original poster had submitted a ticket, although in fairness I couldn't find one when I checked.

I have now submitted a ticket to address the "Error posting comment" message.

  • Well, in this case we did fix the problem without a ticket. But alas, since there was no ticket there was no easy way for you to tell that it was fixed. (Which is why we like to have tickets.)

But as with all requests, sometimes they get done as part of our development (whether someone outside the developers noticed the need or just we did.) You can always check the development release or the change log to see what has been done.
  • That's great! Thank you.

Although I have to say that it took me a while to find the fix even with the reference number - I would never have considered searching for "foreboding"!

I guess like many users I delve into the innards of Zenphoto only when I've installed this excellent package on a site. And again, perhaps like many users, I am no software guru and am learning code as I go along. You who are living with the product know it inside out - spare a thought for us old guys who find it difficult to remember what we had for breakfast, let alone the intricacies of php and javascript (in my day java was still a cup of coffee)!!

But you do a first class job and your quick responses to our fumbling queries are very much appreciated.

Keep up the good work ........ now where did I put my glasses?? Oh - on top of my head! Thank you nurse!

    Mike
  • As I said, things would have been better if the original poster had created a ticked. I would not have thought to search for "forgoding" either. I found the changeset by searching for "moderated".
