Thumbnails / Image Cache- not generating fully

I'm hoping to use Zenphoto as a portfolio site.

I've searched and tried many different solutions, but the thumbs (and now most of the image pages) are not showing up. Earlier today (before dumping & recreating the cache several times) some of the image pages would show up and most of the square thumbs, but not the album thumbs.

Several albums have large images (8MP or so), others have smaller 600x400 images. I'll resize the large images if needed, but even the smaller ones don't consistently cache.
I've read through the troubleshooting & many forum posts, but haven't yet found a solution that works for my site.

The file/folder permissions are wrong on the /cache folder. See the troubleshooting for info (setup should have warned as well).

I had checked permissions (repeatedly), but it seems some of the files were not getting updated (hence some working some not).

Do you know why they are not created with the correct permissions? Is that something my server is not allowing? (The directories were 750 instead of 755 and the files were 640)
I'll have some more to upload later today, so maybe I can test to see exactly what is going on.

Setup will have given you the opportunity to select file/folder permissions. Seems maybe you selected "strict+". This is a good setting if everything works. (Not something that can easliy be perdicted, depends on a bunch of server configuration parameters.)

You might want to select simply "strict" instead. Re-upload the setup files and run setup again. There will be a "notice" link by the file/folder permissions line that reveals the selctor for changing this.
