Enable Custom Thumbnail Cropping

On the admin-thumbcrop.php page I am getting the error "Thumbnail cropping is disabled. Enable this option for the theme if you wish cropped thumbnails." when I am using my custom theme. What is the proper option to set in the theme ( I am assuming you do this with setThemeOptionDefault) to allow custom thumbnail cropping? Thanks!
