Stopping image cache possible?

Hello NG,

since I'm a bit limited on webspace (and don't want to change my webhoster) I try to find out how to stop zenphoto from caching images. I use a desktop program to trim down my photos in quality and size, so any further adjustment is unnecessary.

I could live with cached thumbnails.

I'm using the zenpage theme and zenphoto 1.4.0.3.

Greetings

Dirk

You can't directly as otherwise your server would have to generate all sized images and thumbs everytime anyone views your site. Your site would become unusable if you have more than a few visitors at a time.

But if you upload images in the same size or smaller than needed on the image page for the sized images, Zenphoto will not process them and use the full image instead. Of coures you should not use the watermark option, too.

    Btw, who is "NG"???
  • Unfortunately, this response is not true. Zenphoto will always create a cached version of the images it displays other than the "full image".

If your site is really this limited in storage space you really should either request more or switch providers. There is really no excuse anymore for limited disk space when one can buy a 3TB disk drive for $130.

Right, sorry, this was indeed changed. Don't remember actually why right now.
  • Because the overhead of testing each time to see if a cache image was needed (something that would go on forever for images that do not get cached) was much more than the cost of caching the image.

    Thanks for refreshing my memory.
