Where's the watermark file?

I've never used the watermark feature before, but on a new site I enabled it, and it works fine.

I want to do a custom watermark, and I looked in the themes/plugins/watermarks folder - but there are no files there! So, where then, is the current watermark file coming from?

TIA!

    The current comes from the default ones within /zp-core/watermarks. Place your own custom ones always in said folder so you don't delete them accidentally when updating.

    Thanks. It might be good if the instructions in the Admin area of Options/Image were updated to reflect this location, as it now says there in the right hand column opposite the Watermarks option:

    "Images are in png-24 format and are located in the /plugins/watermarks/ folder."

    I appreciate your help!
  • Why should these instructions be updated? They say exactly where you should put watermark images. They say nothing about where Zenphoto might place the ones it provides. These are not something that you as a user should be touching.

    Well, I think it is just a bit counterintuitive. Mostly because if one looks in the existing /plugins/watermarks folder, there is nothing there, and yet the watermark feature works just fine, using the default watermark files from the zp-core/watermarks folder. I realize this is in keeping with maintaining the integrity of the core files.

    It is as simple as this:
    - standard/default ones -> zp-core/watermarks
    - custom ones -> plugins/watermarks

    Also it is standard with Zenphoto that all custom plugins etc. should be place in /plugins anyway.

    It confused me also. You are told to use png-24 format and upload to /plugins/watermarks/ but it said nothing about the file name. I had to look in zp-core/watermarks for that.

    I agree.

    You can name a custom watermark file ANYTHING you want; the only requirement is that the format should be PNG-24. As long you put your custom watermark into the /plugins/watermarks folder, ZP will recognize it as a valid watermark file, and will add it to the drop-down list of available watermarks.

    Ah, is that how it works!

    Kinda makes sense now, I didn't realized it added to the dropdown menu.

    Neither did I, until I figured out how ZP handles this. You should also probably note that you can set a default watermark file for the Album, and then as necessary, pick a different watermark file for any individual image,in the Image section. Very versatile.

    I had been trying to figure out if there was any way of having more than a single position for a watermark for individual images, but it seems there is no way to do that.
  • Apologies for dragging up an old topic but I don't think it's obvious enough about the location for user created watermarks as I made exactly the same mistakes and put images into /zp-core/watermarks folder.

    I think if the wording was modified it would be better:

    Currently:
    Images are in png-24 format and are located in the /plugins/watermarks/ folder.
    Proposed:

    Place custom watermarks into the /plugins/watermarks/ folder and they will appear in the dropdown menu opposite. These images should be in png-24 format and samples are located in /zp-core/watermarks.

    Given that the original text is located directly besides that drop down I personally don't see that this is more clear. /plugins/watermarks/ is the exact location and cannot be mistaken if you at least once looked at the Zenphoto package (or the list on our extensions page).

    But I am used to it naturally...
