modrewrite causes comments error

when i turn the modrewrite on, i get a beautiful URL, however, the < div class="error" > part of the comments section always shows. iv tried using another pc, but then it had the same result. it seems that the php functions feels that there's always an error. i don't have that error when i turn the mod rewrite off. i'm using the testing theme that came in with the package. any ideas on this one? thanks a lot!
