Cache the album very slow on new Synology 211+

Hi,

I bought a Synology 211+, because I found the 3 years old Synology 107+ so slow.
Now, I have them both running and can compare. I just uploaded 24 images (1800 x 1000 pix) to a new album, then pressed the 'cache the album' button on both systems.
The old 107+ did the job in a slow 3 minutes, the new 211+ took 4 minutes to process!
I'v installed the latest software on all devices. Any idea how to speed up the terrible slow caching?

I love Zenphoto, hope to have some help to get it faster!

I have no idea what a "Synology" is but the speed of caching is dependent on the server power and related to that to the dimensions (and of course number) of the images processed.

It is not necessary to pre-cache images at all as Zenphoto does this exactly once on the site itself anway (if you use a theme with special coded sizes it is even completely useless). Info about caching and why that is so on our troubleshooting guide.

Thank you for your quick reply.

For your interest: a Synology is a NAS, see www.synology.com . I use it to host websites on it.

Question: I cannot find why that caching option is on the admin page and on each album page. I thought I had to use it every time I uploaded a new album?

    Kind regards, E.

I found out that that is a server type as well. As said please read on the troubleshooting regarding caching and how Zenphoto works with images.
  • Remember that the image is not served from the NAS directly. It must fit be fetched by the server running the WEB ap. so maybe a NAS drive is not an appropriate place to put the images. Of courese it depends on the NAS device and the network connection. Snappy servers on gigabit networks can work well, Intel atom based ones on 10mB Ethernet will be disappointing.

Of course this is nothing to do with Zenphoto, it is to do wth the server being appropriately configured for its task.
