EXIF Data problem

I just installed Zenphoto and the colorbox plugin.

When I view the EXIF data most of it shows up OK but the metering mode and flash fired lines show up as Kanji. When I view the exif data in other software this does not happen.

I looked in the database and it is the same there for instance, this is what I have in EXIFMeteringMode: 局部

Is there a way to fix this?

  • Your exf data charcterset is probably different from the default assumed by Zenphoto. Zenphoto will detect if the EXIF is utf-8, but if it is not UTF-8 it uses the value set by the EXIF encoding option of the image options tab. This defaults to Western European (iso).

I tried multiple files from multiple cameras over the course of 5 years. They all do the same thing. Only the Shutter Speed, Metering Mode and Flash Fired lines load like this. The encoding is UTF-8 for some of the images I tested. My ITPC encoding option is set to Western European (ISO)

Here is link to a screenshot of what I am seeing:

  • shutter mode, etc. are numeric, no problem with character set endocing for them. Unfortunately cameras are not allways compliant with standards. They may or may not store the text in UTF-8 and they may or may not indicate that they have done so.

But what is showing on your shot is Kanji characters, so perhaps your language settings are not working properly. Try disabling or removing hte Japanese and Chineese translations.

    Thanks!

I removed those languages and new images I am uploading are working. I appreciate the help.
