zenphoto.org offline often?

Hi, I'm loving what I'm seeing with zenphoto but it seems as though zenphoto.org is unreachable for hours at a time quite often. Is there a hosting issue? I'm in the UK and thought I ought to mention it in case it's some weird localised problem rather than a global one.

It's just been down for many hours before I was able to post this.

Yes, sadly this occurs sometimes because of heavy traffic (and beloved spammers trying to do things they do). We just upgraded our server not to long ago because of this, too.

I don't know what it was this time (I could not access since yesterday) and waiting for info from our server administrator. He recenlty mentioned that the host had problems with a connection.

Thanks for your concern. We've had a couple issues recently, the first of which occurred last week due to a datacenter outage unfortunately out of our control; it happened between 9AM and 3PM GMT, so it's likely that it was down for you if you tried to access the site from the UK.

Just today the server experienced an issue with the Apache web server which caused it to stop accepting connections... I'm still analyzing why this could have occurred, and will keep the forums posted if I find anything. Otherwise I'm keeping an eye on things and have a monitoring service to notify me if it goes down again, so there shouldn't be any further issues.

Thanks for the speedy replies acrylian and trisweb - I sympathise with the spammer problem and hopefully the traffic load is actually a good thing.

Thanks for the extra info trisweb, I'm evaluating zenphoto for use by an organisation here which can get plenty of traffic and would be happy to promote zenphoto with the footer credit, but if zenphoto.org is offline often it wouldn't look good when people check it out. Hopefully that's not going to be an issue now but I can just keep the Powered by zenphoto credit and leave it unlinked for the time being.
