As I took the time to update my previous plugins, I came across a request for a simpler and broader-spectrum social tool. It got me to thinking that there are other social networks that users find sharing attractive for. So with that in mind, I've created zenSocialShare.

What does it do?
zenSocialShare creates standard Open Graph and Twitter meta-keys to allow for content-rich sharing across multiple social networks. This first incarnation includes standard tags for Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Pinterest.

zenSocialShare also creates a template hook that the gallery admin can add to their themes. This hook creates a horizontally aligned row of sharing buttons (with share counters), all aligned via CSS. CSS included in plugin if the admin desires to change styling per button.

Why do I need a Facebook App
While I could have created a simple button that linked to the sharer.php, this would not have enabled counters which I desired. To enable the counter, Facebook has updated requirements to include a Facebook App ID.

Why do I need to have my site approved?
While the standard sharing buttons will work for Twitter and Pinterest, the rich content sharing (Twitter Cards and Rich Pins) require their respective social networks to approve you. Out of my control, sorry. You can however still use these plugins as is without approval, you simple won't have the fancy Twitter Cards, etc. It will simply provide a link.

Why does the plugin need my Twitter handle?
Adding a twitter handle is optional. If you do add your twitter handle, when a web surfer uses the tweet button, it will automatically add a "via @yourtwittername" to the tweet.

    Great as always but you did know that the official `html_meta_tags` plugin already has open graph and even the pinterest meta tag for sharing or not built in for quite some time? Twitter cards are on my list but not that "urgent" for the reasons you noted."

    Don't get me wrong, we can't have enough plugins, but maybe some checks for those options os you don't have them doubled or something.

    Yeah I saw them in html_meta_tags after I created this, heh. I'll modify it in a bit to add checks if they're enabled in html_meta_tags.

    Thanks for the catch on twitterlink.. been a long night, lol.

    I have also just updated the html_meta_tags entry on our site so it is more clear what it actually does: http://www.zenphoto.org/news/html_meta_tags

    It's really meant to be the all purpose meta tags tools from my side. So if anything feels missing open tickets or do pull request of course.
