Caching Question

Hi I installed the newest Zenphoto 1.4.1.4 together with the zpArdoise theme and the Slideshow plugin.

I have around 5 GB of family photos I like to put in Albums.

When I started with the 4 for albums, I posted 30 MB of pictures on the server. No I found out there is a lot of disc space gone for caching another with 30 MB.

Is it possible to turn off the cache?
or to expire the cache after 7 days for albums not often accessed?

If haven't found any cash control settings in the GUI
and no recent article in the forum.

If I go ahead with this settings, I will run out off disk space soon.

No, the image cache cannot be disabled as it caches the generated sized images and thumbs and such. Otherwise these would have to be created everytime anyone accesses your site which naturally will slow all down especially with that much images.

It does not make sense to put 3000x3000px images on a website so you can control this by uploading propler pre-sized images. Of course even those are still cached but take less space. There is also a setting for the image compression of the generated images you might want to adjust.
  • Thanks i don't a high resolution, mostly older 3MP pictures and new 6MP pictures. I resize the large one to max 2048 x 1536 (Full HD resolution), to have in the future the possibility to see the on a Full HD TV with internet access.

With a medium jpg. quality i have max 500kb for a picture.

Do you have any cron job, that is able to delete files in folders older than xx days, to remove cache files from the not so popular albums. ...never mind if somebody like to look at a album once a year and has to wait a little bit.

I searched the internet the last hours for cron jobs and haven't found anything that deletes .jpg in subdirectories.

Would be nice to have a Zenphoto plugin for this. Only keep the thumbs and delete cached photos not accessed in the last 90 days.
  • I forgot to ask, where can I found the setting for the image compression?

Well, 3 or 6MP is quite a high resolution for a website, although for full screen it makes sense .(btwm Full HD is actually 1920x1024px).

Sorry, we don't have a cron job or plugin for that but you can manually clear the cache for all or just specific albums on each album edit page (which is recreated on the first visit of the image in question again). There is a gallery stats tool on the overview page so you can see which albums are least visited roughly.

Image compression is naturally on Options > Image.
