While Installing had error message now locked out

I was upgrading to 1.4.1.5 and have run into an issue.

During the install I was shown the message about "loose permissions". I selected the pulldown and asked for strict.

It then came back with a message about (from memory, it all happened rather quickly) that this was an unauthorized user and locking system. Then everything went white.

I've tried to re-copy the setup files etc but all I ever get is a white screen, I can never get setup to run.

Pretty stuck right now as I'm not sure what I have to do to clear a setting (?).

    Unfortunately, you will have to use FTP to put all those permissions back to loose. (Apparently your site will not run with the strict permissions.)

    If you can better remember the message it might help, but there is not a message from Zenphoto that says it is locking the system.

    It was as if setup thought I was hacking the system. i.e. not a valid user. That was the type of message it sent out, then it said something about "locking the system" but those are not the correct words.

    It never changed any of the permissions of the files. They are as if I had just uploaded at 777 but setup refuses to run. All I get is a white screen.

    It's my own server as well so I can get right into the file system with no issues.

    Zenphoto setup is not able to change permissions on every server, a config issue. It is btw not on our own server (which is run for us).
