Flowplayer plugin - flash only or HTML5 too?

I'm using ZenPhoto as a video gallery solution and need to get it workable for iOS (iPad, iPhone) users. I have ZP 1.4.1.5 and the version of Flowplayer packaged with it (3.2.6 I think).

I know Flowplayer by itself supports HTML5 functionality for those devices, but in Zenphoto when I try loading an MP4 file via the Flowplayer plugin in I'm getting prompted to download Flash on the iPad (rather than scaling to HTML5). Is there an option I'm missing for this, or is it currently impossible in ZP?

The 1.4.2 BETA has the iPad plugin included (please test it as I can't lacking any iDevice at all) and also features another player called jPlayer that supports html 5 even for non iDevices.
  • Ah, very good. I have the 1.4.3 build installed - haven't been able to locate the iPad plugin however. Are you referring to the Flowplayer HTML5 fallback, or a totally separate plugin for iDevices?

I was referring to the Flowplayer iPad plugin.
  • Does that need to be manually enabled? I still get the "Click Here to Download Flash" message when loading Flowplayer on an iPhone.

No it should be available by default. Of course only with video formats iDevices support. A .flv movie of course does not work. It might also be that it is not implemented correctly. I did it as of their documentation but as said I am not able to test it.

Note that this is only in the 1.4.2 beta (trunk svn) and the 1.4.3 (dev svn). It is not in the current release.

I would anyway suggest to use the jPlayer plugin which has better html5 support not only for iDevices but browsers.
  • Yeah, I'm working off 1.4.3 and using MP4 files that do play offline on iDevices - so perhaps the implementation needs a little work. I'll check out jPlayer though, thanks again for the fast support!

We really can't recommend to use the dev svn for 1.4.3 currently. For testing yes, but not on a live site.

You should use the trunk svn which is the 1.4.2 beta and becomes the full next version later on. The 1.4.3 stream may soon become really experimental.
