Page Not found Error 404

I mistakenly changed the .htaccess file to open with Dreamweaver. And though the code in this file is still the same, now I can't open my Photo albums. Previously this file
just showed as blank, now the DW file symbol shows up.

What's the cleanest or fastest way to change the file back to blank? Thanks.

  • If your htaccess file is standard, you can remove it and have setup recreate it. Of course you may need to re-upload the setup files.
  • I deleted the .htaccess file. I reloaded the setup files. That didn't create the .htaccess file. I then uploaded Zenphoto again nothing changed. Still get 404 error when I
access photo archives page on my site.

Do you mean I should run the Zenphoto setup again to create a new .htaccess?

Yes, run setup again and click the button Make setup create the file on the setup page.
  • Thanks. That worked just fine.

Have another question regarding web page security(User ID and password protection).

Found several coding choices on the internet. Only one problem.
I can't create a blank .htaccess file without a file extension,
like txt. Tried renaming but that didn't remove the file ext
txt. Any ideas on how to accomplish this? Thanks.

You need to do that via FTP directly as normal desktop systems do not allow that. Create a plain htaccess.txt file. Upload that and change it directly to .htaccess.

What you mean is a directory htaccess protection. You can probably set that via the backend of your provider as well.
  • Okay. Will try that. Thanks.
