50 Versions Behind: PHP 7 broke my ZenPhoto

hello there,

I'm getting an Internal Server Error.

Error log shows 'php_value' being flagged as an invalid command.

I traced that to zenphoto/.htaccess

PHP was upgraded to 7.3.24 not too long ago. I just discovered the
error.

I'm at version 1.4.2.3 of ZenPhoto. I believe this is back in 2012.

any hints for upgrading?

in what versions did database changes occur?

excuse me while I run out to buy some midnight oil. - lol

Thanks,
Greg Strockbine

There is a reason you should frequently maintain an install of any CMS ;-) You need Zenphoto 1.5+ for PHP 7 compatibility.

While a direct update may work, you have to try step by step updates of bigger versions regarding updates (Note a versioning change since 1.4.7)

If you are using custom or third party things (like themes or plugins you naturally may have to do some more work than just the upgrade.

  • thank you for the tips.

I agree with you about keeping software up to date.

Believe it or not I managed a web server for 10 years.
Started by building apache from scratch. Handled the
mail, updated the spam filters, maintained web sites, etc.

Many life changes: lost a wife, retired, lost interest.

I'm using zenPhoto to maintain a family web site on a
Dream Host server, that I haven't looked at for years.
A cousin tried to access it and told me it's down.

For the last 4 years my access to the web has been
    through my phone.

Now I'm rebuilding my development environment on Linux.
I had to consult the man pages for ssh, tar, diff. Get my
.bashrc and .emacs files up to snuff.

Kind of fun to renew that skill set.

    again, thanks for the tips,

    Nice product by the way.

Thanks. Yes, I absolutely understand the reasons why updates are not frequently done. It can be annoying when everything always wants to be updated. Sometimes hard to catch up and sometimes if it runs it runs…

Let us know if you need further help.

  • I'm up and running.

I backed up my 1.4.2.3 version of zenphoto
    and backed up my database.

did a clean install of zenphoto 1.5.7

copied the albums directory from my old version
    of 1.4.2.3

    ran setup

and it pretty much works. I'm still going
through over 3,000 images, no problems yet.

The zenphoto crew did a good job.

I remember way back when Gallery was the
dominant photo software. Then Gallery updated
to using mysql and provided no upgrade script.

I felt stranded, decided to look for something else.

I gave Coppermine a try but the admin interface was
    too confusing to me.

Then I found Zenphoto and believe I have made the
    right choice.

    Thanks guys.
