hi

despite of akismet plugin and honeypot in comment form, I have a lot of spam :-(

in a first time, it seems the honeypot doesn't work anymore (maybe, the hidden field is too easy to detect by spammers).

in a second time, I do not know why akismet is so fooled by spams that seem easy to detect.
I do not have a time-out of the akismet server, but I have a response indicating that the message is not spam.

any idea to improve comment form and akismet plugin ?

You might be getting human spam as we do on the forum every day. I read that in some countries I won't name people more or less work in kind of factories just for sending spam...

Against human spam the honey pot is of course useless. To my knowlege akismet maintains a catalogue of spam that it checks against. It probably has a hard time to catch up these days.

Other possibility the Akismet spam plugin for Zenphoto is not working correctly anymore..;-) Did they maybe change some API or so that could affect that?

There is also a honeypot plugin zenHttpbl written by one of our contributors that blocks known spammer IP addresses.

vincent I'd be interested to see if zenHttpbl helps you. I don't really have much in the way of spam on my site. But I think that's mainly because I have FB comments. Give the zenHttpbl plugin a shot and see if it works for you.

Hi vincent, not really "a lot of spam", just 2 messages both from a single IP. It was clearly human spam, whit content appropriated for the images where the comments were posted and just a link to a website in the author field. I contacted the admin of the site linked and I didn't get any new spam since then.

@micheall :
I will have the following tests :

  • no plugin enabled (akismet and zenHttpbl) : I'll be polluted but it is necessary for you and for me
  • only akismet plugin enabled
  • only zenHttpbl plugin enabled
  • all plugins enabled (akismet and zenHttpbl)
